PCL awarded $1.3B contract for final phase of CAMH redevelopment
Infrastructure Ontario (IO) and the Centre for Addiction and Mental Health (CAMH) have awarded a fixed-price contract of $1.33 billion to a team led by PCL to design, build and finance the CAMH Phase 1D Redevelopment project.
The project scope of work includes the construction of a new building – the Secure Care and Recovery Building, to support CAMH’s forensic services. The new building will include more beds, dedicated family visitation areas, outpatient services, security and building support services.
PCL’s team also includes designers Diamond Schmitt Architects & Architectural Resources.
PCL will now begin mobilizing on site and construction will start this spring. Construction is targeted to be completed in the winter of 2029.
CAMH is Canada's largest mental health teaching hospital. Through a multi-phased transformation of its Queen Street West site, CAMH is building a modern campus that helps break down stigma and better address the unique mental health needs of patients.
CAMH’s forensic mental health program currently operates out of an old, institutional building that was not built for modern concepts of forensic health care.
Phase 1D of CAMH’s forensic mental health program is the fourth and final part of the hospital’s broader redevelopment project.
PCL completed construction of Phase 1C in 2021.
