Feds invest $2.5M in Hamilton modular builder
The federal government has provided a Hamilton-based modular builder with an investment of $2.5 million to boost its production capacity.
Filomena Tassi, the minister responsible for the Federal Economic Development Agency for Southern Ontario, announced the funding for BECC Modular on January 15.
“Our government knows we need to act quickly to create more housing, support the middle class and build an economy that works for all Canadians,” said Tassi. “That is why we are investing in manufacturers, like BECC Modular, that are working hard to provide much needed solutions for quality affordable housing and create skilled jobs so Canadians can secure their futures and continue to grow.”
The company, which manufactures modular structure for affordable housing projects and commercial properties, says it will use the funding to adopt more efficient steel frame manufacturing capabilities for modular home construction.
As a result, BECC expects to produce up to 2,200 modular structures per year for single and multi-storey buildings across Canada. The project will also create 35 new, skilled jobs in the Hamilton region.
“This is the right investment at the right time,” said CEO Ali Ozden. “BECC Modular has access to the right labour and materials in Hamilton to scale up dramatically our production output and respond rapidly to the ever-increasing demand for housing of all types.”
Founded in 2020, the Ancaster-based company employs 75 employees. BECC Modular uses certified recycled steel as its primary building material because it is strong, durable and can be recycled indefinitely.
