Toronto courthouse earns LEED Gold certification
EllisDon has announced that its high-rise courthouse project in downtown Toronto has achieved LEED Gold certification.
The 17-storey, 690,000-square-foot courthouse amalgamates six Ontario Court of Justice locations.
Key features of the building include high-efficiency plumbing fixtures that reduce water consumption by almost one-third, and an energy-efficient design that cuts energy consumption by 40%. The building also includes a rooftop solar panel system, and during construction, 85% of waste was diverted from landfills.
The project reached substantial completion on January 31, 2023. The building opened for operations in March 2023.
In 2018, Infrastructure Ontario and the Ministry of the Attorney General awarded a fixed-price contract of $956.4 million to the EllisDon Infrastructure consortium to design, build, finance and maintain the project located north of Toronto’s City Hall.
The team includes: EllisDon Capital Inc., EllisDon Design Build Inc., Renzo Piano Building Workshop and NORR Architects & Engineers Limited, EllisDon Facilities Services Inc. and SNC Lavalin O&M.
The project was initially designed to achieve LEED Silver certification.
