Bovaird Drive project in Peel wins OPWA award
A project in Peel Region has received a project of the year award from the Ontario Public Works Association (OPWA).
The region received the award in the $10 Million and Up category for work on the Bovaird Drive Transformation at Mount Pleasant Village.
The project replaced a westbound bridge which had reached the end of its service life, created a seamless merge with an existing eastbound bridge and widened Bovaird Drive to six lanes. It also implemented new multi-use pathways, cycling crosswalks, rest station benches, upgraded intersections and enhanced streetscaping to promote accessibility, active transportation, and a pedestrian-friendly environment.
“I'm delighted that Peel Region has received the OPWA's Public Works Project of the Year Award,” said Kealy Dedman, the region’s commissioner of public works. “This recognition reflects Peel's commitment to enhancing infrastructure, expanding our transportation network, and creating a community for life where mobility, walkability, and various modes of transportation are safe and accessible.”
The OPWA Project of the Year award recognizes excellence in management and administration, and celebrates the alliance between the managing agency, consultants, architects, engineers, and contractors who work together to complete public works projects.
The region has posted a video about the project on its YouTube site.
