Province announces $6M for Hwy 401 repairs near Kingston
The Ontario government has announced that it will invest $6 million to resurface ramps and rehabilitate bridges along a section of Highway 401 near Kingston.
The stretch of road spans the eastbound and westbound lanes of the highway from Westbrook Road to Highway 15, along with all four ramps at the Sir John A. Macdonald interchange.
“Highway 401 is a vital link for communities in eastern Ontario, connecting families, workers and businesses to Quebec, the United States and beyond,” said Ric Breese, Parliamentary Assistant to the Minister of Transportation and MPP for Hastings–Lennox and Addington.
In addition to the lane renewals, concrete repairs will be carried out on two bridges between Sydenham Road and Highway 15. These upgrades will improve safety and traffic flow, create jobs and help promote economic growth across eastern Ontario.
“Investments like these are critical to Kingston’s growth and prosperity,” said Bryan Paterson, Mayor of Kingston. “By improving Highway 401 and its infrastructure, we are not only enhancing safety and reducing traffic congestion, but also strengthening our city's connection to vital trade routes. This project will benefit local families, businesses, and our economy for years to come.”
Highway 401 near Kingston accommodates approximately 120,000 vehicles and 10,000 trucks, carrying $380 million in goods, every day.
Ontario is investing $3.9 billion in 2024-25 as part of the Ontario Highways Program, which features 635 expansion and rehabilitation projects across the province.
