Marvell announces $238M Ontario expansion
Marvell Technology has announced it will make $238 million worth of investments into Ontario's semiconductor research and development sector.
The initiative includes the launch of a new office in Toronto, the scaling-up of its semiconductor research and development operations in Ottawa and York Region, and the establishment of an 8,000-square-foot lab in Ottawa that will be instrumental in developing advanced optical technologies crucial for high-speed data transfer within AI data centers.
The move is expected to create up to 350 technology jobs across the province.
“The world’s hyperscalers, leading data centre operators and OEMs rely on our technology to power their most demanding AI workloads,” said Sandeep Bharathi, president of the Data Center Group at Marvell. “Ontario offers a vast pool of professionals with expertise in the latest semiconductor and AI technologies, and we are delighted to bring new talent into the company to help extend our leadership position in next-gen, advanced AI data centre infrastructure solutions.”
The provincial government is providing up to $17 million to support the company through the Invest Ontario Fund.
Marvell is headquartered in Delaware. The company designs and sells semiconductor products, as well as other products having to do with artificial intelligence and cloud services.
