Cambridge Memorial Hospital expansion completed
The Ontario government has announced the completion of construction work at the Cambridge Memorial Hospital (CMH) redevelopment project.
The province invested over $220 million to support the project, which is the largest redevelopment in CMH’s history.
“Across the province, our government is making historic investments in health care to build more hospitals, bring on more doctors and nurses, expand home and community care and reduce wait times,” said Premier Doug Ford. “This redevelopment of the Cambridge Memorial Hospital will connect more people in Cambridge and surrounding region to connected and convenient health care, close to home for years to come.”
EllisDon delivered the project, which saw the renovation of more than 400,000 square feet of space to build a new patient care tower. The new facility will increase the hospital’s ability to care for more people by over 30 per cent and improve care for patients undergoing life-saving surgery or requiring emergency care.
Renovation work include:
- The construction of a new patient care tower equipped with state-of-the art surgical and birthing suites, emergency department, intensive care unit, maternal newborn unit, pediatric unit and mental health unit
- Expanded capacity with the addition of 52 new inpatient beds to connect more people to acute care and support services, bringing the total number of beds to 197
- Fully renovated and enhanced laboratory and diagnostic imaging departments, featuring three radiology rooms, fluoroscopy, CT scanner, ultrasound, mammography, bone density, and a new nuclear medicine unit to help detect and treat cancer and other diseases
- A purpose-built rehabilitation department with 17 additional rehabilitation medicine beds to support the growing need for comprehensive recovery and therapy programs in the region
- Three new dedicated endoscopy suites, equipped with an expanded pre and post operative recovery space to ensure seamless patient care and privacy
CMH is a full-service, acute care hospital committed to providing health care to the communities of Cambridge, North Dumfries and the Region of Waterloo.
The Ontario government is investing more than $228 million this year to support critical infrastructure upgrades and repairs at 129 hospitals and 58 community health care facilities across the province, a 10 percent increase from last year. This includes over $1.13 million at Cambridge Memorial Hospital in 2024-25.
