Construction work underway at two LTCs
The Ontario government has announced the start of construction work on two long-term care homes – in Milton and in Ailsa Craig.
The home in Milton will include 192 beds. Run by Excelligent Care, the building will be a four-storey home comprised of six 'resident home areas' (RHAs), designed to create a more intimate and familiar living space for up to 32 residents each, with dining areas, activity areas, and lounges.
Work on the project is expected to be completed in late 2026.
Meanwhile, the project in Ailsa Craig, near London, will add 13 new and 83 redeveloped long-term care beds at the Craighome building. Like the home in Milton, the facility will include several RHAs, each with its own separate dining room, lounges, balconies, activity areas, medication room and nurses’ workspace.
The redevelopment project is expected to be complete in early 2027.
Both projects received funding through the province’s Construction Funding Subsidy top-up, which is part of the government’s commitment to build 58,000 new and upgraded long-term care beds across the province.
As of December 2024, the province says 131 projects representing a total of 21,579 new and redeveloped beds are completed, under construction, or have ministry approval to construct.
