Construction starts on new Peel Memorial Hospital
The Ontario government has announced the start of construction of the Peel Memorial Hospital.
The new hospital will add new and enhanced services in state-of-the-art facilities, such as a 24-hour emergency department, to serve Brampton and Peel Region.
“I’m thrilled to celebrate this incredible milestone as we get shovels in the ground for the new Peel Memorial Hospital,” said Premier Doug Ford. “The investments we are making across the province will help transform health care, with $50 billion supporting more than 50 hospital projects across Ontario.”
Once completed, the new hospital will include: a multi-storey patient tower with up to 250 inpatient beds and the ability to build additional beds in the future, a new, state-of-the-art, 24/7 emergency department, expanded post-acute care services, new and enhanced services for seniors, including dementia care, and new and enhanced outpatient clinics and services, including a fracture clinic.
“Brampton is one of the fastest-growing cities in Canada and our government is ensuring it has the critical infrastructure needed to support families for generations to come,” said Prabmeet Sarkaria, MPP for Brampton South.
To date, the province has invested nearly $46.8 million in capital planning funding to build the new Peel Memorial Hospital. Once opened, it will significantly increase Osler’s ability to connect more people to care, including additional specialized care for patients who require longer hospital stays before safely transitioning home or to community care.
William Osler Health System provides care to 1.3 million people in Brampton, North Etobicoke, Caledon and surrounding communities, across its five sites — Brampton Civic Hospital, Etobicoke General Hospital, Peel Memorial, a Reactivation Care Unit and a Withdrawal Management Centre.
The province is supporting additional expansion projects at Osler, including the addition of 12 new hemodialysis stations at Brampton Civic Hospital and renovations of the critical care area of the new Etobicoke General Hospital to add additional ICU beds.
