Construction starts on Tillsonburg LTC home
The Ontario government has announced the start of construction work on a new long-term care home in Tillsonburg.
The 160-bed facility will be run by peopleCare Tillsonburg, and the project received funding through the province’s Construction Funding Subsidy top-up.
“Congratulations to the team on the new construction at peopleCare Tillsonburg. Our government is fixing long-term care, and a key part of that plan is building capacity where Ontarians need it,” said Tyler Allsopp, Parliamentary Assistant to the Minister of Long-Term Care. “When construction is complete, 160 residents will have a safe and modern place to call home.”
The new home will feature a three-storey building with a building floor area of 2,950 square metres. The design is centred around five resident home areas, each of which creates a more intimate and familiar living space for up to 32 residents, with dining and activity areas, lounges and living spaces. Planned amenities include a bistro, chapel, dining and activity rooms, secured balconies, a courtyard, outdoor spaces, a therapy room, a hair salon, and a family stay-over room.
The home is expected to welcome its first residents in late 2026.
As of January 2025, 131 projects representing a total of 21,579 new and redeveloped beds are completed, under construction, or have ministry approval to construct. The province has committed to building 58,000 new and upgraded long-term care beds as part of its Fixing Long-Term Care Act.
