Massilly North America announces Brantford expansion plans
Metal packing manufacturer Massilly North America has announced plans to spend $85 million on a new food-packaging plant in Brantford.
The facility will produce cans for food packaging. Once open, it is expected to create 50 new jobs and sustain 228 others. The plant will also remove reliance on imported steel packaging.
“Today’s investment is great news for workers and families in Brantford and across Ontario and will support good-paying jobs throughout our manufacturing supply chain,” said Premier Doug Ford. “Our government will continue to cut taxes and red tape to attract investment and create good-paying jobs as we build the strongest, most resilient and most competitive economy in all the G7.”
By expanding their operations to include coil cutting and three-piece can production lines, Massilly will ensure consumer goods sold across Canada can leverage Canadian steel.
In support of this investment, Ontario is providing $5 million in funding through the Ontario Together Trade Fund (OTTF).
“This project is a testament to our belief in Canadian manufacturing,” said Massilly North America President Garnet Lasby. “By combining Canadian steel with our technical expertise, we are creating a ‘Made in Canada’ solution that benefits the environment, the economy and the consumer.”
As part of its plan to protect Ontario’s workers and businesses, the government launched several targeted funding initiatives to support companies and industries, especially across tariff-hit sectors. Among these, the OTTF has supported $120 million in total project investments while protecting and creating 1,500 jobs.
