The chief executive of Algoma Steel is hoping the company's costly investment to make "green steel" will help to insulate it from the kinds of sector-wide downturns that previously threw it into bankruptcies.

The team announced an investment of $40,000 in support of United Way Windsor-Essex County, and opened applications for its 2022 Community Organization Investment initiative.

Following on the heels of the 1.6% drop in employment in September, construction shed a further 8,700 workers (-0.6%) in October.
