Environment and Climate Change Minister Jonathan Wilkinson says the investment will make classrooms more comfortable and healthier for students and teachers.

The building, which is considered a heritage structure, underwent a series of renovations from 2016 to 2019. It has since been recognized for superior performance in energy water consumption, waste diversion and human experience.

Forbes Bros Ltd. and Valard Construction LP will work together under an early-contractor involvement model to provide advice and input into the project. Only one will be chosen to build the line, however.

The federal and provincial governments have announced more than $8 million in funding for a series of community and cultural projects in London, Brampton and Atikameksheng Anishnawbek.

The mine, which is located in the James Bay Lowlands, approximately 90 kilometres west of the Attawapiskat First Nation, operated from 2008 through 2019.
