Construction price increases hit record highs in Q2
Statistics Canada’s latest look at construction prices shows growth of 7.5 percent in the residential sector for the period of April to June, and of 3.7 percent in the non-residential sector.
Construction concludes at Union Station
Work at the station has been underway for 11 years at a final projected cost of $824 million. On July 27, Toronto Mayor John Tory reopened the Bay Concourse, which marked the end of construction at the country’s busiest multimodal passenger hub.
Key indicators suggest construction on the path to recovery
Data released by Statistics Canada in its June Labour Force Survey report show the industry added 27,000 workers (+1.9%) during the month. Industry employment is now 5.4% higher than in June 2020, but still below the total recorded in June 2019.
Federal government funds rapid housing projects in London, Hamilton and Kingston
The federal government has announced combined funding of more than $31 million to support the construction of more than 120 rapid housing units in London, Hamilton and Kingston.
Feds, Ottawa fund $22M bridge project
The money aims to transform the disused 140-year-old Chief William Commanda Bridge into a cycling, walking and winter skiing route across the Ottawa River.
