Three prequalified for South Niagara hospital project
Infrastructure Ontario (IO) and Niagara Health announced on July 21 that they have prequalified three teams to design, build, finance and maintain the new South Niagara Hospital.
Shortlisted for the work are EllisDon Infrastructure Healthcare, which is being led by Ellison with design support from Parkin Architects Limited; Niagara Care Partners is being led by Amico Concessions Inc, Sacyr Concesiones, S.l. and SNC-Lavalin Capital Inc. with design support from IBI Group Architects (Canada); and Plenary PCL Niagara Health, which is led by Plenary Americas LP and PCL Investments Inc. with design support from Cannon Design Ltd., and facilities management by Johnson Controls Canada.
IO and Niagara Health expect to issue a request for proposals to the teams later this year. The successful team is expected to be announced in late 2022.
In its June 2021 P3 Market Update, IO listed the value of the project at more than $1 billion.
Sited at the intersection of Biggar Road and Montrose Road in Niagara Falls, the new South Niagara Hospital will be an integral part of Niagara Health’s connected healthcare system.
The facility involves the creation of Centres of Excellence in stroke, complex care, geriatric psychiatry and ageing and wellness. As well, the project will centralize services from existing facilities, making it easier for residents to access the care they need at one location, provide an overall better experience, and enable communities to be healthier.
The new South Niagara Hospital will be designed and built to meet the Canada Green Building Council's Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design Silver standards. In addition, the project is working toward being the first WELL-certified healthcare facility in Canada focused on the health and well-being of staff, physicians, volunteers, patients, families and caregivers and the Niagara community.
