Pomerleau-led team selected for Brampton, Toronto justice projects
Infrastructure Ontario (IO) and the Ministry of the Attorney General (MAG) announced on April 30 that they had selected a P3 team led by Pomerleau to build two justice projects in the GTA.
Trans/FORM, which includes Pomerleau as developer and design builder, as well as NORR Architects & Engineers as lead designer and Plan Group as mechanical and electrical contractors, will be tasked with designing, building and financing the Brampton Courthouse Addition Phase 2 and the Toronto Region Bail Centre project.
The project is expected to reach financial close in the coming weeks, and the contract cost and schedule should be announced shortly after that. IO’s latest market update document indicates the project is valued at less than $200 million.
The A. Grenville and William Davis Courthouse in Brampton is the busiest courthouse in the province. To address the current and growing courtroom pressure, the province approved a two-phase project to build an addition to the facility in 2016–17.
Phase 1 of that work is currently under construction and is scheduled for completion shortly. It involves the construction of a six-floor addition, and fit-out of the basement and floors 1 and 2.
The second phase of the work, which was won by the Pomerleau team, involves the fit-out of the remaining shelled floors of the addition, as well as the partial renovation of the existing courthouse and adjacent Land Registry building.
The total area of project scope is approximately 130,000 square feet.
Meanwhile, the Toronto Region Bail Centre project involves the renovation and modification of the existing courthouse building at 2201 Finch Avenue West. The facility will accommodate all adult bail operations as well as weekend and statutory holiday court bail matters once the new Toronto courthouse opens in 2022.
The facility renovation and retrofit includes updates to spaces to accommodate bail functions, and other minor modifications to support the new bail centre, including easy access from the Toronto South Detention Centre, and to provide digital connectivity to other locations.
The total area of project scope is approximately 30,400 square feet.
