Construction sheds 2,900 jobs in December
The industry ended 2020 with an employment loss. For the entire year, construction employment is down 80,000 jobs, or 5.4 percent, and the threat of a partial industry closure in Ontario only leaves the industry in a more precarious position.

Ontario is issuing an order requiring residents to stay at home starting Thursday, except for essential activities such as accessing health care or shopping for groceries, and further delaying in−person classes for students in some hot spots.
Breaking: Non-essential construction ordered closed
The closure is part of a series of new measures announced by Premier Doug Ford in response to the resurgence of the pandemic. It comes into effect just after midnight on January 14, and could last as long as 28 days.
