The Ontario government has committed to spend an additional $12.5 million to bolster service delivery at the province’s six health and safety associations.

The annual awards pay tribute to the health and safety achievements of independently-owned and operated businesses with fewer than 50 employees.

Bacic Forming Concrete was fined for its role in a 2021 incident that led to a worker suffering fatal injuries on a residential construction site in Ashton.

A worker at the company’s plant in Chepstow, northwest of Kitchener, was found unconscious between two trolleys containing precast concrete slabs. The worker later died from the injuries.

The declaration recognizes the importance of the province’s building code and the critical role building officials play in maintaining public health and safety.
